WORLD HANDICAP SYSTEM
On January 1, 2020 the USGA adopted the World Handicap System to align all six different handicap systems used throughout the world into one, universal system.
Changes Included:
The maximum score for each hole played is calculated as follows:
Par of the hole + 2 strokes + Any handicap stroke(s) that the player receives on that hole. Handicap strokes are based on your Course Handicap and the Stroke Index of the holes.
EXAMPLE:
Susie Queue, has a handicap of 23 therefore, in addition to the double bogey strokes, she will receive 23 additional handicap strokes based upon the Stroke Index of the course. She gets a stroke on each of the hole’s #1 through 18 and the 5 remaining strokes (23-18=5) are allocated to the 5 most difficult holes on the course or Stroke Index #’s 1 through 5.

WORLD HANDICAP SYSTEM
On January 1, 2020 the USGA adopted the World Handicap System to align all six different handicap systems used throughout the world into one, universal system.
Changes Included:
- Your Handicap Index is calculated using the best 8 of the most recent 20 scores (It was previously 10 out of 20).
- The new maximum Handicap Index is 54 for both genders (It was previously 36.4/40 for men and women).
- The Handicap Index will now be revised on a daily basis, your Handicap Index will be calculated after each score is posted. For this reason, you are strongly encouraged to enter your scores before midnight on the day of play.
- The most visible change to players is in what is now known as Equitable Stroke Control (ESC), the maximum number of strokes recorded for handicap purposes.
Note: The Equitable Score Control for a 23 handicap was a maximum of 8 for all holes. Under Net Double Bogey the maximum number is not a constant. In this example, on hole #5 a 9 is the maximum and on hole #12 a 6 is the maximum.
