HANDICAP INDEX vs COURSE HANDICAP
Your Handicap Index is a general representation of your potential scoring ability, and is always expressed as a number rounded to one decimal (e.g. 10.4).
Your Handicap Index is used to determine your Course Handicap for a specific course and set of tees.
In other words, by applying some magic calculation using a Course Rating and Slope Rating one's Handicap Index is used to determine one's Course Handicap.
On any given day your Handicap Index remains the same, regardless of the course you play but your Course Handicap will change depending on what tee's you play, what course you play etc.
magic calculation = Index x (Slope/113).
For instance if my Handicap Index is 29.2 my Course Handicap is as follows:
Riverview Red Tees = 29
Riverview Yellow Tees = 22
Riverview Combo Tees = 26
Lakes West Red Tees = 28
South Red Tees = 25
You do not need to figure this out or do any hard math but you do need to know your Handicap Index. Each course will have a chart posted somewhere that will tell you your Course Handicap based upon your Handicap Index.
At Riverview, for league use, the list is updated each week and is located in the first bulletin board.
